Ice Cream Bar Illustration |

Overview

The illustrations above are just a sampling of a large number of concept images I produced for Breyers marketing department that included Ice Cream Bars and other delicious treats. Illustrating Ice Cream Bars I produced a pencil construction drawing of the Ice Cream Bar and the Wooden Stick; this was scanned into Photoshop to serve as a Template for all the images. Using the Template as a reference, I drew a Wooden Stick in Photoshop and placed it on the Layer immediately above the Template drawing. I used my WACOM pen and tablet for all detailed drawing in Photoshop. All variations of the Ice Cream Bars were created in the same Photoshop document; each unique feature was produced on a separate Layer. The first Ice Cream Bar I produced was one with a smooth surface again using my Template layer as a guide. This would serve as the basis of all the images that would follow. Initial drawings of Ice Cream Bars did not include the 'Bite' element this was a separate illustration on its own layer that could be turned on or off as desired. I duplicated the layer and used the Levels and Hue/Saturation to produce 'light' and 'dark' chocolate versions. The final challenge for each product illustration was to produce the Bite, revealing the interior of the Bar. Rough sketches were provided by the client indicating the composition of the interior of each Bar, it was up to me to seek out applicable reference materials and illustrate the desired elements appropriately. |

Digital Burger, Hotdog & Fries I created the images in Photoshop, drawing over scanned pencil sketches with a WACOM pen and tablet. I made significant use of Photoshop's Layers Palette to separate on to its own layer each distinct food element that combined to make up an image. |

To produce the ICEE Cup illustration I began with a pencil sketch as with all the other images. I then scanned the cup art from a sample ICEE cup provided by the client. I created a simple cup-shaped cylinder in a 3-D application and wrapped the cup art around it. Finally I saved a 2-D image of the cup with the label and brought it into Photoshop where I illustrated the cup highlights and shadows, straw, plastic lid, and frozen drink with my WACOM pen and tablet. |

Overview
The agency that contracted me to produce this image wanted an illustrated Site Plan as part of a promotional package for a new homes development that would depict the benefit of the nearby ski hills in winter while displaying the main features of the site unobstructed by snow. The solution was a combined winter-summer image. An EPS file of the site was imported into Photoshop to serve as a Template Layer for the image. Each element was then produced on its own layer. The animated-gif above shows the image with and without the 'snow' layer. |
